Comox is ideally located on central Vancouver Island with a handful of good local rivers within a short drive, several excellent remote northern rivers within 2- 3 hours drive offering year round freshwater fisheries and excellent saltwater fly fishing opportunities both locally and further afield from May – October.
All five species of Pacific Salmon are available as well as Winter and Summer Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, Coastal Cutthroat Trout, Dolly Varden Char and even the odd Brown Trout! Millions of Pacific Salmon migrate down the west and east coasts of the island. Feeding heavily, they are heading back to their natal streams locally and all down the west coast of the mainland as far as California.
In the Summer and Fall months the local Salmon gather off the beaches and stage awaiting their spawning run. In the rivers hungry trout gorge on salmon spawn and the fry that emerge in the spring. The nutrients that the salmon carcass provide help to support varied insect life allowing for some exciting nymph and dry fly trout fishing.
